A Year to Scale
If all animals were one year, how many seconds would the exploited ones be?
Sentient animals living in the wild at any given moment: between 1 and 10 quintillion, according to some estimates. Animals raised for exploitation alive at any given moment: about 434 billion. If all of them together were one whole year, how much of that time would the exploited animals take up?
The whole year
Each little square is one day. The exploited animals do not fill even one square: they fit into the last seconds of the last day.
Zooming in on the end of the year
The coral part is the time taken up by exploited animals. It only becomes visible when we zoom in to the last minute.
An analogy from Volume XII, chapter 10. Most of these wild animals live lives in which suffering greatly predominates (Volume VII).
Based on Vol. XII, ch. 10: Which Problems Affect the Largest Numbers of Animals?
