Every year, humans kill somewhere between 34 and 54 trillion animals through exploitation. If you were randomly chosen to be born as one of them, what would your chances be of being each kind of animal?
We use the midpoint of each range in the table in Volume XII, chapter 10. Mammals and birds, the 80 billion most often cited, are less than 0.2% of the total. See the numbers page.
